December 2011

Water temps are running 58-59 degrees and the lake has rose over a foot during the past week with the recent rains. Bass are biting well on "standard" Lake Norman winter patterns/baits such as small crankbaits, jigs, drop shots, and the ever present shakey head. The bass will bite good shallow for 2-3 days at a time then the bite will get very tough. When this occurs simply head out to deeper(15-45 feet) water and target brush and pods of bait fish with the drop shot or shakey head and you'll notice immediate improvement. This will last a few days to a week and just as quick as you began catching fish it will get tough again. When this happens head back to the shallows and start beating shallow points and banks with a shallow crankbait and you'll once again be in bass fishing bliss!
